Juan José Juarez

The sculptural ceramics of the cities of Encantada and Chulucanas has a long history whose origin goes back to the reutilization of pre-Columbian techniques. The Vicus ceramic is the base of this art, the cosmic interpretation of which has allowed this art to be unique in the ceramic tradition of this region.
Juan José Juarez creates masks of different ethnic and social characteristics, through which the artist is searching for his own identity, with the emphasis on the human face of aboriginal and mestizo cultures.
Despite his youth, he achieved third place in the 2000 Regional Piura Crafts Exhibition and first place last year in the same event. He has also exhibited his pieces at the Lesley Lee and National Peruvian Museums, the Ninsey Art and Cultural Center in Argentina as well as other galleries.
Our wishes are that the extreme talent of Juan José Juarez continue on the rise, so as to obtain a well deserved success and recognition, and for the pride or Chulucanas and Piura.
