Walter Laura Solorzáno - Walas

Walas was born and raised in the Yuracc neighborhood of Ayacucho. Yuracc, the same as the town of Santa Ana, is a cradle of developing artisans and popular artists of all manner of expression.
Walas is the son of pioneering weavers of this textile art form.
- In 1982, along with Máximo Laura, he formed the artisanal workshop Retablo in Lima, submerging himself in the investigation of figures and forms.
- In 1990 he formed his own workshop in Huamanga neighborhood of Ayacucho using for the first time fibers of the camelids of llama, alpaca, vicuña.
- From 2001 to 2003, he formed the workshop of Experimentation in Andahuaylas, leaving the seedlings that to the current day continue evolving the textile arts.
- Since 2003 to the current day, he continues realizing his works of textile art taking as reference the significant cultural legacy of his ancestors, the Wari people whose ancient culture dominates the weaving arts.
